What’s inside?
IG Prime has analysed over 600 companies listed on the S&P 500 or FTSE 100 to determine:
- Which sectors have the lowest and highest carbon emissions
- The annual CO2 emissions of these sectors
- The best performing sectors and stocks with a relatively smaller carbon footprint
What do hedge fund managers and portfolio managers need to know about eco-conscious investing?
Here are some key points from the report:
- Strong CSR policies will reflect on yearly stock returns – potentially encouraging investors to put capital into eco-conscious stocks and steer away from industries not actively committed to reducing their carbon footprint
- The machinery sector has the smallest eco-footprint – with a comparatively low 0.247 billion tonnes of CO2E produced annually, followed by paper and pulp, then food and tobacco
- CO2 emissions are the main measure – but there are other ways to assess the sustainability of an investment. Despite how there is still a long way to go with many targets lying decades ahead, some industries have already seen great success in reducing their carbon footprint
