How do I change my base currency and currency conversion settings?

By default, spread betting and CFD accounts have GBP as a base-currency and are set to ‘instant’ conversion – both of which can be changed. You can change the base currency from GBP to a foreign currency, as well as from ‘instant’ currency conversion to ‘daily’. If ‘daily’ is selected, currency conversions will be processed at the end of the day – usually 10pm (UK time).

To change your spread betting or CFD account's base currency, make sure you have no open positions and contact us via live chat or WhatsApp with the following details:

• The IG account ID of the spread betting or CFD account you wish to change. Your IG account ID is a five-character code that can be either alphabetic (like ABCDE) or alphanumeric (like CX17H).
• The base currency you wish to change to
• Details of any funds needing conversion
• Your full name and date of birth
• Your registered postal address
• Your phone number
• The balance on your IG account
• The market you last traded
• The last four digits of your registered card(s)

To view and change your currency conversion settings for spread betting and CFD accounts, you can follow the steps below:

1. Using a web browser, log in to your My IG dashboard
2. Select ‘live accounts’
3. Choose the relevant spread bet or CFD account from the drop-down menu
4. Select ‘currency conversion’ 
5. Change your settings as you wish
