Which are Singapore’s most actively traded stocks in 2020?

Singapore’s 30 most active stock counters included nine STI Index constituents and 11 small cap stocks, among others. Scroll to the end for the full list.

  • They included nine STI stocks, in addition to multiple healthcare, technology and real estate plays
  • Small cap stocks (less than S$1 billion market cap) comprised over a third of the list

30 most active stocks make up 17% of total market cap

Singapore bourse Singapore Exchange's (SGX) 30 most actively traded stocks – counters with an average daily turnover of at least S$100,000 in the first eight months of 2020 – currently make up 17% of the total S$815 billion stock market capitalisation.

Together the 30 stocks saw combined net institutional inflows of S$1.38 billion over the first eight months of 2020.

As many as 19 of the 30 stocks were also recipient to net institutional inflows in 2019, with the 30 stocks seeing combined inflow of S$638 million in 2019.

These 30 companies also contributed 26% of the daily stock market turnover (amounting to S$401 million in transactions each day) over the period. This is up 62% from the S$247 million transacted by the same 30 stocks in 2019.

Only 9 STI Index constituents made the list

Notably, only nine of the 30 stocks were constituents of the Straits Times (STI) Index – SGX's blue-chip benchmark which tracks the bourse’s 30 largest listings.

Non-STI stocks with a market cap larger than S$1 billion that saw the highest net institutional inflow over the first eight months of 2020 included AEM Holdings, Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust and Keppel DC REIT.

As many as 11 of the 30 stocks maintain a market capitalisation of less than S$1 billion (defined by SGX as small caps) including medical apparel manufacturer Medtecs International Corporation, Accordia Golf Trust, GL, Hong Fok Corp, UMS Holdings, Sabana REIT and Jumbo Group.
