How to buy, sell and short Tesla shares
Many investors want to buy Tesla shares because of the growing consumer interest in electric cars. Learn how to buy and sell Tesla stock, or speculate on its share price with a CFD trading or spread betting account.
How to buy and invest in Tesla shares
You can buy Tesla shares in two ways: via share dealing and derivatives trading. Share dealing involves investing in the underlying shares, meaning that you take direct ownership of them and can profit if the price increases or from any dividend payments made by the company.
Derivatives trading is slightly different, because with products such as CFDs, you can speculate on Tesla’s share price increasing without having to take direct ownership of the shares themselves. Follow the steps below to either invest in or trade Tesla shares:
Investing in Tesla shares
- Create or log in to your share dealing account
- Search for ‘Tesla’
- Decide whether you want to trade at quote or on exchange
- Enter the number of shares you want to buy
- Confirm the purchase and monitor your investment
Trading Tesla shares
- Create an IG trading account or log in to your existing account
- Decide whether you want to trade CFDs
- Search for ‘Tesla’
- Choose your position size
- Confirm your trade and monitor your position
