What we do

Our office in South Africa has a dual purpose. Firstly, to give South African traders access to thousands of financial markets, and secondly, to provide an operations hub that provides services to the wider IG Group.

Based in Sandton and staffed by South Africans, over the last ten years we have successfully grown to meet the needs of South African clients, receiving numerous awards in recognition.

Our board and senior management in South Africa consist of largely South Africans making us a truly South African operation. As one of the biggest employers in the online broking category, we are proud to be playing a leading role in the growing financial services industry in South Africa.

Why IG South Africa?

Trusted and regulated

We respect South African regulatory compliance and oversight. We know from our interactions with regulatory authorities across the world that the South African financial regulators are highly respected for their oversight of the South African financial services sector and financial system.

We regularly work and interact with the FSCA , the SARB, National Treasury, the FIC and the JSE.

Best Practice

We work hard to share best practices and to bring innovation and new thinking to all the markets we serve.

We believe our industry should not only subscribe to the South African regulatory requirements, but that it is necessary for all participants to ascribe to a code of conduct and standards that will ensure the integrity of our industry.

Investment in South Africa

In line with our Group ESG programme we use funds made available through our Brighter Future Initiative to improve educational opportunities for the least privileged young people in our global communities.

In addition, we have allocated more than R600,000 to local charities to assist those, hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leadership

Our executive and non-executive board members ensure that IGMSA is well positioned for the short, medium and long-term.

A sustainable business model

Our business model is based on giving clients the opportunity to trade the world’s financial markets, in exchange for fair and proportionate transaction fees; in doing so we seek to develop long-term relationships based on mutually aligned interests.

IG’s business model negates the potential conflicts that can arise in an OTC business, as IG internalizes client flow and hedges residual exposure when it exceeds IG’s Board-Approval Limits.

This approach aligns IG’s interests with those of our clients and reduces the trading costs for its clients to benefit from our exceptional execution and deep liquidity, which combines market liquidity and the company’s internal liquidity to maximise the likelihood of execution while minimizing price impact.
