'It’s time to get to work to deliver Brexit by 31st October, unite the party, defeat Jeremy Corbyn – and energise our country!’ said Johnson.

British politician Boris Johnson was confirmed as the new leader of the Conservative Party on Tuesday, winning the race to become the next prime minister of the United Kingdom (UK). The new leader will take over as prime minister officially today (July 24, 2019) and unveil his new cabinet, as well as make calls out to other world leaders in his first greeting as UK's leader.

Following the announcement of his win as the leader of the Conservative Party to succeed UK prime minister Theresa May, Johnson delivered a speech with the call ‘to unite this amazing country’.

Johnson subsequently posted on his Twitter the video of his speech accompanying the words: ‘It’s time to get to work to deliver Brexit by 31st October, unite the party, defeat Jeremy Corbyn – and energise our country!’

The exiting prime minister Theresa May will be making a short farewell speech on Wednesday (24 July, 2019) before handing her resignation to the Queen of the UK, Elizabeth II.

Meanwhile, Johnson will be seeking an audience at the palace where he will be invited to form a government before leaving to make a speech outside Downing Street.

The soon-to-be prime minister will then announce the most senior cabinet appointments including the chancellor and home secretary before making calls out to other world leaders in a first chat as a leader of the UK.

Johnson is expected to make a statement to Parliament on Thursday about his Brexit strategy and take questions from members of Parliament.
