JPMorgan Chase share price: what to expect from Q1 results

The bank's Q1 earnings report could have large implications for other financial institutions.

When is JPMorgan Chase’s results date?

JPMorgan Chase will share its Q1 earnings report on April 12.

JPMorgan results preview: what does Wall Street expect?

Some Wall Street experts predict that JPMorgan’s Q1 results will be muted after a slowdown in mortgage refinancing and a global economic slowdown leading to a reduction in customer activities. Volatility in emerging markets could also impact JPMorgan Chase’s Q1 earnings.

The US Federal Reserve raising interest rates in December 2018 could possibly have helped JPMorgan Chase’s Q1 earnings, according to Zack’s Equity Research. However, the Fed pausing interest rates early this year could also have an adverse affect on JPMorgan Chase’s profits.

The month-long US government shutdown could cause a decline in JPMorgan Chase’s Q1 profits as well. The government shutdown likely delayed Chase’s underwriting the initial public offerings (IPO's) of companies in early 2019.

Because of the bank missing estimates in its last earnings report, bank experts are less bullish on JPMorgan Chase stock. Bank experts surveyed by Reuters predict that JPMorgan Chase’s Q1 earnings per share to fall by 2% to $2.37. They also estimate that JPMorgan Chase Q1 revenue will only grow slightly to $28.54 billion, an uptick of 0.10%.

How to trade JPMorgan Chase Q1 results

JPMorgan Chase expects to increase its expenses by 4% as it invests more in technology, especially its own digital coin. The increased expenses could cost $66 billion and negatively impact JPMorgan Chase’s Q1 earnings.

However, Zack’s Equity Research states that because of the 2018 corporate tax cuts passed by Congress, JPMorgan’s Q1 results could see growth because US banks received $9 billion as a result of the tax reduction.

JPMorgan Chase Q1 results could set the tone for other bank stocks

JPMorgan Chase Q1 profits could be a sign for other US financial institutions. If the largest US bank has a positive earnings report, JPMorgan Chase Q1 revenue could mean US banks have survived the volatility of Wall Street in 2018.
