Transfer shares to IG

How does it work?

To transfer your existing investments to IG, you need to have an IG Share Trading account.

If you are transferring Australian shares, please ensure you have already submitted your TFN. To enter your TFN, simply log in to your account and select any Australian share.

If you are transferring US shares as an individual, please ensure you have filled out our dynamic form on My IG. Simply navigate to the settings tab of your account and select 'dealing US stocks'. However, if you are a non-individual, please complete the appropriate W-8BEN form listed here.

Once you've opened a Share Trading account with IG, simply download the relevant form below and return it to us.

Broker-sponsored stock transfer

Applies to international and Australian shares transfers, for when you hold your shares with a broker, or in an online share trading account. When transferring Australian shares, please make sure you have your Holder Identification Number (HIN) handy, it will be shown on any communications issued by your broker.

Issuer-sponsored transfer

Applies only to Australian shares transfers, for when you hold your shares with the registrar, usually as the result of an IPO, SPP or Employee Share Plan. Please make sure you have your Security Reference Number (SRN) handy, it will be shown on a holding statement issued by the registrar.

Off Market Transfer

Applies to Change In Beneficial Ownership Transfers. You can transfer shares between accounts in your own name, or between different individuals, entities and joint accounts within or outside (with another broker) of IG.

How long does it take?

There's only one short form we need you to complete, and then we'll take care of the rest.

The majority of transfers will be complete within 2 weeks. However, this can vary as transfers are dependent on the transferring broker and beyond our control. You may be out of the market for a period while the transfer takes place.

To avoid any delays when transferring Australian shares, please ensure you have submitted your TFN. To enter your TFN, simply log in to your account and select any Australian share.

To avoid any delays when transferring US holdings, please ensure you have completed the relevant tax forms.
