It is now the FTSE 100’s turn to languish, while the DAX and Dow register new all-time highs.

FTSE 100 treads water

While the FTSE 100 has recovered from the lows of last week, and while the trend is still intact, gains above 7750 have proven fleeting at best.

However, for now, we should work on the basis that the current trend will reassert itself, with a push towards 7800. A drop back below 7683 would suggest a move lower is in progress, down to 7600 and then 7550.

DAX finally breaks higher

The DAX has clocked up a fresh all-time high, moving above the November high.

Support is possible at 13,533 and then 13,427. A definitive breakout will require a daily close above 13,533.

Dow relentless in its climb

The Dow Jones continues to soar, helped by good earnings and the end of the US government shutdown.

Momentum is relentless, and dips are short-lived. Possible areas of support can be found at 26,152 and then 25,440.
