FAQS
What is a trading platform?
A trading platform is computer software which you can use to research, place, monitor and edit trades. You can choose from many platforms, including desktop platforms, trading apps, web-based platforms and third-party programs.
What trading platforms are available and how do I choose one?
We offer access to several third-party trading platforms, including advanced charting on TradingView and specialized platforms like MetaTrader 4 and ProRealTime for algorithmic trading.
New traders might prefer our online desktop platform, while mobile traders can use our trading apps. Experienced traders can access advanced third-party platforms, and algorithmic traders have specialist platforms for automated trading programs.

What are the key differences between a demo trading account and a live account?
A demo account is a simulated trading environment that lets you practice trading with virtual funds ($20,000 with IG) without risking real money. Some key differences are (but are not limited to):
  • Demo account will not be subject to slippage, interest and dividend adjustment, or after-hours price movements.
  • Chart packages are free and positions won’t be automatically closed due to insufficient margin on demo accounts.

Does IG offer guaranteed stops?
Yes, we do offer guaranteed stops when trading CFDs. If triggered, these stops incur a fee, which can be viewed on the platform. For share CFDs, for example, this typically starts at 0.3% of the underlying transaction value.
