Dollar Tree Q1 earnings and revenue match expectations

Dollar Tree’s Q1 earnings per share were $1.14, equalling the predictions of financial experts. Dollar Tree’s Q1 revenue was $5.809 billion, slightly exceeding the projected $5.79 billion. Same-store sales also increased by 2.5%.

Dollar Tree selling items for more than $1

Dollar Tree is changing its business model slightly by offering select items costing over $1 in some stores. Chief executive officer (CEO), Gary Philbin, spoke about the upcoming ‘Dollar Tree Plus!’ program.

‘With its 'Everything's a Dollar' model, Dollar Tree has remained one of the most unique, differentiated and defensible brand concepts in all of value retail. However, we have always been a 'test-and-learn' organisation that is committed to evaluating all opportunities to deliver great value for our customers while driving long-term value creation,’ said Philbin.

The retailer gets 40% of its goods from China, so the price hikes will probably help offset the increased costs from US-imposed tariffs on Chinese products.

How did Dollar Tree’s Q1 earnings compare to other retailers?

Compared to Dollar General, Dollar Tree’s Q1 earnings report was also positive. Both Dollar General and Dollar Tree had revenue that beat expectations.

Dollar Tree’s Q1 earnings report was better than Walmart's Q1 results report. Walmart’s Q1 earnings report was mixed, with high earnings and slightly lower revenue that missed estimates. Dollar Tree's Q1 earnings and revenue surpassed analysts' projections.

What's Dollar Tree’s full-year earnings guidance?

For fiscal year 2019, Dollar Tree’s earnings per share are projected to be between $4.77-$5.07. The retailer’s revenue is predicted to be in the range of $23.51 billion-$23.83 billion.
