FAQs

What is a government bond?

A government bond allows an investor to loan money to a government, usually on the understanding that they’ll receive periodic interest payments, and the original sum in full when the bond reaches maturity.

With IG, you can speculate on the price of government bonds without actually owning them, by spread betting or trading contracts for difference.

When can you trade bonds online?

IG’s bond market trading hours vary depending on the country the underlying bond originates from. For example, our German bond markets trade between 7am and 10pm, where our US bond markets trade between 11pm and 10pm (all times listed are UK).

What is the minimum bond trade size?

IG’s minimum bond trade size is £2 per point.
